Tottenham Hotspur are planning to fight Arsenal for Southampton starlet Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the two London sides are in a race to sign the 17-year-old, who is already an England Under-21 international.

Spurs coach Tim Sherwood went down to watch the teenager during Southampton's 1-1 draw against Charlton.

Apart from Tottenham, Manchester United are also keen on the player, and could offer £10 million to prise him away from their rivals.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly prepared to offer £5m up-front with another £5m based on appearances.

This could be bad news for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has previously admitted his interest in the player, and the Frenchman could be forced to splash the cash in order to land the Englishman.
