Arsene Wenger: I am to blame
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has finally admitted it is all his fault for his side's barren season.
The Gunners' title hopes were all but extinguished after a 2-1 defeat at Bolton on Sunday.
Wenger, who has been under the heat for his stringent youth policy and relunctance to sign big-name players, admitted he is the man to blame.
"If anybody is to blame it is me. I pick the team, I choose the players," the Frenchman was quoted as saying in The Sun.
"Our chances are minimal now but we have to continue to fight.
"I feel the players have had an outstanding attitude for the whole season but they are not to blame.
"Yes, it is very unsatisfactory not to win anything. It was one of the easiest run-ins we have had for a long, long time.
"We still lack maturity, experience and calm in important situations."
As if the defeat wasn't bad enough, Robin van Persie was alleged to be involved in a spitting row with Bolton's Matt Taylor after the match.
Wenger, who insisted he did not see the incident, could only resign to yet another potless season.
He added: "It is all very frustrating but that has been the story of our season.
"This week we could've taken nine points, we've taken two."
The Gunners now face a fight to hold on to third place as Manchester City are eight points behind them with two games in hand.
