Aimar wanted at Newcastle

Newcastle United are said to be readying a bid for Argentine playmaker, Pablo Aimar.

Newcastle United are said to be readying a bid for Argentine playmaker, Pablo Aimar, who is currently under contract with Spanish side, Real Zaragoza.

With the club's relegation to the Segunda Division, Aimar is said to be seeking a quick transfer so as to avoid playing in a lower division.

Aimar, 28, is of a generation of Argentine players who had huge amounts of promise, but did not deliver as the world had expected. The switch from Valencia to Zaragoza was a relegation in itself - as was getting dropped from the national team.

Definitely one of the most exciting players to have emerged from Argentina in the past decade, his dribbling and penetrative runs will be a huge hit with the fans at St James' Park.

With Kevin Keegan at the helm, flair players like Aimar will definitely fit the bill as he seeks to play the attacking brand of football that he is renowned for.

However, King Kev might need to act fast so as to avoid disappointment as clubs like Panathanaikos, Lazio and even English rivals Liverpool are also interested in the player.

A fee in the region of US$12 million is apparently what Zaragoza want for the 28-year-old midfielder but it remains to be seen if club owner, Mike Ashley, is willing to release the funds for Keegan to add some creativity to his team.
