Keegan Keen On Reyes?
Atletico Madrid winger, Jose Antonio Reyes, is apparently at the top of Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan's wish list.
Reyes, formerly from Arsenal, was previously on the books of Real Madrid having arrived there on loan from the Gunners two season ago but the former Sevilla front man crossed the Madrid divide to join arch rivals Atletico at the start of last season. However, the 24-year-old has struggled for form at the Vicente Calderon, failing to even find the net and having been pushed down the pecking order behind the duo of Simao Sabrosa and Maximiliano Rodriguez.
With the Spaniard, who has 21 international caps to his name, undergoing such a wretched spell, it has come as no surprise that he was omitted from Spain's Euro 2008 squad, a far cry from the days when he was previously tipped to be the fulcrum of Spain's future attack.
However, the Sunday Sun claims that Keegan will not be put off by Reyes' marked loss of form and is plotting to acquire his services as part of a three pronged forward line, especially with Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins' future uncertain on Tyneside.
Alas, Reyes' inability to adapt to life in England which ultimately resulted in his transfer away from the Gunners coupled with his lacklustre form back in his native country mean that his arrival to any Premiership outfit is a non starter, therefore rendering his switch to Newcastle unlikely.
