Premier League Team of the Week
Arsenal players dominate our Team of the Week picks following their 7-1 hammering of Blackburn.
By Marcus Chhan
Led by hat-trick hero Robin van Persie, Arsenal midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott join the Dutchman in our best XI.
This week's Team of the Week covers two rounds of Barclays Premier League action which posed some interesting challenges with regards to selection and formation.
We've gone with a 4-3-3 set-up with Wayne Rooney played just behind the two strikers of Van Persie and Sergio Aguero while Tottenham's Scott Parker has been handed the job of protecting our back four.
GK: Wayne Hennessey (Wolves)
No goalkeeper in the Barlcays Premier League has had to make more saves than Wolves' Wayne Hennessey. Morale in the Wolves dressing room must have been at a real low following last Tuesday's 3-0 hammering by Liverpool, and things were not looking good for the relegation candidates when Bobby Zamora put QPR 1-0 up on Saturday after just 15 minutes.
However, Wolves fought back to win the match 2-1 with Hennessey making a string of excellent saves to seal the come from behind win including one terrific effort to deny Adel Taarabt towards the end.
If you're a struggling club like Wolves, then you want your keeper to keep you in games and give you the chance to win some and that's exactly what Hennessey does for his side. No wonder Wolves have recovered more points from losing positions than any other team in the league this season.
Other Teams of the Week:
German Bundesliga Team of the Week
Italian Serie A Team of the Week
RB: Micah Richards (Manchester City)
The right-back position was a difficult one to fill this week - in fact the last two rounds of Barclays Premier League fixtures haven't been too kind to defenders. Manchester City's Micah Richards was certainly one full-back who stood out for his all-around play during his side's 3-0 win over Fulham in the late kick-off on Saturday. The England international teamed up with Adam Johnson to absolutely own the right flank with Fulham left-back Chris Baird having a nightmare game.
Richards wasn't too bad against Everton either in midweek. Although City lost the game 1-0 to Everton last Tuesday, Richards was a commanding presence in the air winning all nine of his aerial challenges.
LB: Leighton Baines (Everton)
Everton left-back Leighton Baines is no stranger to our Team of the Week sheet and after two attractive displays against Manchester City on Tuesday and Wigan on Saturday, he returns to the team.
City don't seem to like games with Everton - they've lost eight of their last 10 against the Toffees - with Baines playing his part in keeping a clean sheet and producing the win for manager David Moyes. Baines also set up Victor Anichebe for Everton's only goal over the weekend when they drew 1-1 with Wigan.
CD: Michael Turner (Sunderland)

Sunderland's remarkable turnaround under manager Martin O'Neill continued as they easily overcame Norwich 3-0 on Wednesday before grabbing a 1-0 win on the road at Stoke. Two very good results for the Black Cats considering how good Norwich have been this season and how difficult it is for any team to get anything at Stoke.
Sunderland defender Michael Turner was central to both victories, as he formed a solid partnership with John O'Shea at the back and it was telling that O'Neill's side was one of two clubs which managed to keep clean sheets in the last two Barclays Premier League rounds.
CD: Daniel Agger (Liverpool)
Liverpool were the other team which did not concede a goal over the last two Barclays Premier League fixtures - they thrashed Wolves 3-0 last Tuesday and drew 0-0 with Tottenham on Monday. Reds centre-back Daniel Agger was crucial to this result - especially against Spurs where he had to nullify the threat of Emmanuel Adebayor.
It's lucky for Liverpool they have Agger in their side as they continue to have the lowest chance conversion rate in the league this season (8.5%).
RM: Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
There were quite a few great performances from players in the right midfield position over the last two Barclays Premier League rounds but Theo Walcott must get into our team for doing what so few players have done this season against Blackburn.
Over the weekend, the Arsenal midfielder served up three goals on a plate for his team-mates as they romped to an impressive 7-1 win over Rovers - Walcott is only the fourth player to register three assists in a game this season. You could argue that the defending was poor on each of the goals involving Walcott but let's give the winger some credit here for actually finding the man in the box perfectly (something he has been accused of not being able to do frequently).
LM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal)

If there was one midfielder who played better than Theo Walcott in the last week then it was his team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. We were already impressed with the teenager in the limited games we have seen him play in but after the Rovers game - where he scored twice - it was just plain scary to think that he isn't even 19 years old yet.
The ‘Ox' was brilliant and did Rovers so much damage when he dropped into pockets of space. Witnessing him power into the box and skip past Paul Robinson to score his first goal of the afternoon, you were left with a similar feeling to that when you first saw a certain Cristiano Ronaldo perform in his first season in England. A feeling of excited anticipation because you know this kid will be something special.
CMD: Scott Parker (Tottenham)
Scott Parker is one of the early favourites to be named as John Terry's replacement for the England captaincy - and we believe he would be a fantastic choice. There are so few modern day footballers willing to do the defensive midfielder job that Parker does and he is the best in the business at doing it at the moment.
It was his graft and hard work which allowed Luka Modric and Gareth Bale to shine in Spurs' 3-1 win over Wigan last Tuesday and on Monday against Liverpool he ensure his side did not suffer defeat to one of their rivals for the coveted fourth spot.
AMFC: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney has a mixed history from the penalty spot in the Barclays Premier League, but as the saying goes: Cometh the hour, cometh the man. When United were awarded a penalty against Chelsea with the scores 3-0 in the Blues favour, there was only ever going to be one player who would take it.
Rooney stepped up and blasted it into the roof of the net and not long after converted another spot kick to help the Red Devils complete an unlikely comeback. Rooney took the fight to Chelsea when the chips were down and in doing so ensured that United avoided defeat after being three down for the third time in their Premier League history.
ST: Robin van Persie (Arsenal)
The first name down on our Team of the Week this time around. Robin van Persie's hat-trick in Arsenal's 7-1 win over Blackburn took his season tally to 22 in the league and he is only the fourth different Arsenal player to score 20+ goals in a single Premier League season.
The Dutchman also proved that he is not the selfish breed of striker and duly set up two of his team-mates for goals in the Rovers rout. In fact, RVP has been involved in more goals (22 goals and 7 assists) than any other player in the league this season.
His hat-trick against Rovers took him past Dennis Bergkamp on the club's all-time goal scoring charts - one Dutch legend replacing the other.
ST: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
Anyone who thought Manchester City was going to roll over and die in the heat of the Barclays Premier League title race was sadly mistaken. The pressure was on City to get a result following last week's 1-0 loss to Everton but City and in particular Aguero responded to thump Fulham 3-0 on Saturday.
The Argentinean was superb - scoring City's first goal and wonderfully setting Edin Dzeko up for their third and final goal.
