Sevilla consign Espanyol to first loss
Sevilla moved up to fourth place after a deserved 2-0 win over early pace-setters Espanyol on Wednesday night.
Italian midfielder Enzo Maresca finally put the hosts ahead after 56 minutes and substitute Ernesto Javier Chevanton added a late second to extend the Andalusian side's unbeaten start to the season and inflict a first defeat of the campaign on Espanyol.
Sevilla's early-season performances had not been altogether convincing and there were question marks over the team's ability to compete with the top sides in Spain in the build-up to the match, but Manuel Jimenez's side responded with a convincing display.
