Malaga vs Barcelona Preview

Barcelona are looking for an 11th straight win in all games when they travel to Malaga in the Primera Liga on Saturday night.

The Catalans lost on the opening day of the season to promoted side Numancia and could only draw at home to Racing Santander in their next match, but quickly discovered their attacking verve to string together an impressive 10-match winning streak.

That run has included stunning 5-0 wins over Almeria and Basle, and equally impressive 6-1 victories over Sporting Gijon and Atletico Madrid.

The last win, a 1-0 success at lowly Benidorm in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday night, was less spectacular.

But Guardiola rested a host of first-team players for that match.

Victor Valdes, Rafael Marquez, Carles Puyol, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o were left out but should all return for the match at Malaga.

Thierry Henry was also excluded because of a gastric problem, but is expected to be fit in time for Saturday's match.

Eidur Gudjohnsen and Pedro Rodriguez have recovered from their respective injuries and could also feature in Andalusia, but Gabi Milito remains sidelined with a long-term problem.

Guardiola believes his side are in for a real test against Malaga.

"A true test awaits us in Malaga," he said. "It's a nice ground and we'll be up against a very aggressive and dynamic team who are physically strong all the way through the side.

"They have won four games in a row and when you watch them, you can see why.

"They don't close up at the back, they play a very direct game and are very good at set pieces, so if we go there thinking about how good we are, we will have a hard time."

Guardiola knows that Barcelona historically struggle in matches like this, but says he trusts his players to produce a professional performance.

"Experience tells me that these type of games have been difficult for us in the past and it is my obligation to remember that," he added.

"Up until now, my players have not given me any reason to doubt them, so I hope tomorrow will be no different."

Barcelona's winning six-game run in the Primera Liga has lifted the Catalans to second place, a point behind leaders Valencia.

Meanwhile, Malaga's four straight victories have propelled them into sixth place.

Coach Antonio Tapia believes that recent good form means it is an ideal time for his side to face Barcelona.

"We all know about Barcelona's potential, but we are enjoying a good spell ourselves and at home, with the support of our fans, we have a chance and we will make the most of it," he said.

"We have to win the ball off them, because if you lose it they will end up beating you.

"The key is to create chances when you have it and put them away because they are great finishers and will punish you."

Miguel Angel Lozano and Duda return from injury, but Fabiano Rossato and Salva Ballesta remain sidelined and will not feature.
