Morientes dismisses Zaragoza link
Veteran Fernando Morientes has dismissed suggestions a deal is in place for him to return to former club Real Zaragoza.
Morientes will be a free agent this summer as his contract with Los Che expires and there have been reports that he is heading back to Zaragoza, the club he spent two seasons with before joining Real Madrid in 1997.
However, the former Spain international denied any such move is already agreed, and insists he does not know yet where he will be plying his trade next season.
"It's totally untrue (regarding Zaragoza). There is nothing decided, there are some important offers and it will be a question of seeing which is the best for me," Morientes was quoted as saying by Marca at what the player admitted was his final press conference as a Valencia player.
The 33-year-old joined Valencia in 2006 but has found playing opportunities difficult to come by in recent times. Nevertheless Morientes insists he will look back on his time at the Mestalla with fondness.
"It's been three years where I've received a lot of respect from the fans, not only in the stadium but also in the street. I want the fans to know that I'm very grateful for the warmth and respect they've shown me," he said.
"The three years have passed quickly and this means that I've enjoyed it. It seems like yesterday that I came through that door and was presented (as a new signing).
"I've taken many positive things from these three years, and many friends which is the important thing.
"I've learnt a lot despite my age."
The 33-year-old striker started his career at Albacete before moving onto Zaragoza and then Madrid, where he spent eight seasons and won three Champions Leagues and two Primera Division titles among many other successes.
Morientes also played for Monaco and Liverpool before returning to Spain with Valencia.
