Guardiola not keen on extending deal

Pep Guardiola is hesitant to tie himself to a long-term contract with Barcelona even though he has guided the team to a treble.

Guardiola is of the belief that coaches perform better if they are in a position of insecurity and the pressure produced will fuel the results that will translate into another season or two with their current teams.

The Barca head coach explains how titles are won and lost quite easily, and why he should not ink that five-year deal that La Blaugrana have reportedly offered.

"My case is no different to any other. We could quite easily have not done everything that we have done and won the treble. We could have won nothing this season," he is quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

"If we did not win in the Bernabeu that the league would have been complicated or if Pinto had not saved a certain penalty then we could have been out of the cup and if we had not scored in London there would have been no Champions League."

"All that could have meant that my job would have been different."

"For those reasons I do not think that the club should be mortgaged by giving out long contracts. Coaches should always work with short-term contracts because it adds motivation and leaves the club's hands free."

"We have had the best year in history, but that does not mean I am the best coach."
