The men who could revive Real

Florentino Perez tonight returned as president of Real Madrid promising to bring "a great team and a great coach" to the Bernabeu.

Having signed the likes of Brazil striker Ronaldo, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and David Beckham during his first spell in the hotseat, the Merengue fans will expect more of the same.

Here are some possible targets for Perez:

Kaka

The AC Milan playmaker almost joined Manchester City in January only for the Rossoneri to pull the plug at the last minute. Carlo Ancelotti's departure from Milan earlier today could prompt the Brazil star to look elsewhere, however, and Perez has already admitted to talking to Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani about the 27-year-old.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Madrid's aggressive pursuit of the Manchester United winger last summer ended in failure but his signature now would represent the greatest indication of Perez's pulling power. Reports have even indicated an agreement is already in place - claims Madrid and United have strenuously denied. Would add some much-needed pace to Madrid's attacking arsenal but will not come cheap.

Franck Ribery

The Bayern Munich playmaker has stood out in the Bundesliga and would be an undoubted star in Spain as well. Possesses plenty of guile but is also not afraid to mix it when the occasion demands. Bayern are determined to hang on to their star man but a bid in the region of 50million euros ought to be enough to prise him away from the Allianz Arena.

Xabi Alonso

Madrid's midfield has lacked vision this season and Liverpool's Spain midfielder would provide it in abundance. He almost joined Madrid in 2004 but opted to move to Anfield instead. More defensive-minded, would complement the attacking players Perez intends to bring in.

David Villa

The free-scoring Valencia striker would be seen as the long-term replacement for veteran captain Raul. Has shone at the Mestalla and on the international stage. He would be required to score the goals to help Madrid bridge the gap towards champions Barcelona.
