Liverpool to swap for Silva

Liverpool have acted to scupper Real Madrid’s move for David Silva with a bid of cash and Andrei Voronin.

The Reds are reported to have tabled a bid of €17.5 million straight after the season as they might face more rivals for Silva's signature if they wait, according to The Daily Mirror.

Valencia are set to part with some of their prized assets to balance the books and Liverpool are known to have been a long-time admirer of the Spaniard.

Silva and fellow compatriot David Villa, have expressed their loyalty for Los Che's cause, but they may have to move if the club insists on cashing in on their players for financial reasons.

Rafael Benitez is now rebuilding his squad after being edged out by Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League race and he has identified Silva as the solution to his left-sided problem.

Ryan Babel has failed to make an impact at Anfield and the club is prepared to use whatever they get from his sale to fund Silva's transfer. More resources may have to be devoted to the deal if Valencia reject Voronin.

The Ukraine international arrived at Merseyside in 2007 but has essentially been a fringe player in the squad. He was moved to Hertha Berlin on a loan deal, where he scored 11 goals in 20 games.
