"Perez must learn from his mistakes"
Arrigo Sacchi believes Real Madrid's prospects of future success depend on whether Florentino Perez has learned from past mistakes.
Former Italy coach Sacchi worked under Real's club president Perez as Madrid's football director in the 2004-05 campaign, before resigning shortly after the club sacked coach Walter Luxemburgo.
Perez returned for a fresh stint as president last month and has wasted no time setting about re-establishing the club's 'galacticos' policy.
The Spanish giants signed Kaka from AC Milan for around £59million on Monday and then had an £80million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo accepted by Manchester United yesterday.
Sacchi has backed the spending spree but warns individual talent alone is not enough, even if Kaka and Ronaldo rank among the world's finest players.
Sacchi wrote in his Gazzetta dello Sport column: "Technically and physically they are both extraordinary players.
"Kaka is more agile and Cristiano more powerful. They are two unique talents.
"However, football is not an individual sport but a team one, where the key is in the play. And you cannot buy this - you can only build it through ideas, harmony, work and sacrifice."
Sacchi claims Perez made errors in his first spell as president, between 2000 and 2006.
"Florentino was convinced he knew everything," said the 63-year-old. "He didn't listen to his coaches.
"His (galacticos) project was amazing, colossal, but he bought players as though they were figurines.
"He created a team with so many Golden Ball award winners and champions like Iker Casillas, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Michael Owen...
"But he didn't pay much attention to the technical, tactical, human and professional interaction."
Sacchi added: "The changing room was divided, the rules only served for those who were less famous.
"The result was four years without winning anything and ended with Florentino resigning.
"Hence, the future of Real will depend on what Perez, as an intelligent person, has comprehended since then."
