Valdes renews Barca Contract

Valdes renews Barca Contract

Barcelona’s goalkeeper Victor Valdes has reportedly signed a contract renewal, quelling rumours of a move elsewhere.

After some serious speculation that Valdes was set for move due to an apparent breakdown of contract talks, the keeper's agent has said that all parties reached an agreement on Thursday.

Over the past week, as reports in Spain claimed Valdes had fallen out with the club over wage demands, and many reports linked him with Manchester United as well as AC Milan. The Spanish press also claimed that Barca were looking to sign a new keeper, suggesting Liverpool's Pepe Reina as well as Sebastian Frey and Sergio Asenjo were options.

However, according to reports in Spanish daily Marca, the Blaugrana's technical director, Txiki Begiristain met with the player's father and agent to come to an agreement after negotiations.

"The meeting is now closed" were agent Gines Carvajal's first words when he emerged from his office.

Carvajal strongly denied claims that Valdes was demanding 9 million Euros a year, and said that his client had reached an agreement with Barca.

The Spanish press have not yet speculated how much Valdes will now be earning but there have been conflicting reports of the length of his contract. El Mundo Deportivo claimed that the new deal will run until 2015, while Marca said it would end in 2014.

Barcelona are expected to make an official announcement later on Friday where details will be clarified.
