Villa 'on the verge' of Barca deal
According to press reports in Spain, David Villa is finally going to sign for Barcelona after agreeing a transfer fee.
While Villa's transfer saga has been ongoing for weeks, with reports in Spain see-sawing between Real Madrid and Barca as his destination, while occasionally also claiming he could go to Liverpool or stay at Valencia, the latest reports claim with certainty that Villa will go to the Nou Camp.
With Real Madrid confirming they are out of the race for the Spanish international and his statements that he wants to remain in Spain, the Blaugrana are looking more and more likely to snap up the star.
The Spanish international striker's next move will be made public after this weekend, but Spanish papers Marca, Sport and El Mundo Deportivo have all stated that Barcelona is where he will ply his trade next season.
Sport also claim that Villa has told his agent, Jose Luis Tamargo, to listen to the Blaugrana president, Joan Laporta, and talk to him about contracts.
El Mundo Deportivo believe that Barca will offer €40 million and could go to €45m, while Sport think that a deal is almost settled for €40m up front with €3m more depending on his achievements.
But with Barcelona earlier saying their transfer budget would not be more than €35 million, the papers are also pointing to the sale of Samuel Eto'o to Manchester City to raise sufficient funds to bring in Villa.
The Blaugrana have set their price at around €29 million - steep for a player entering the last season of his contract, but no issue for a City side backed by the inexhaustible wealth of the Abu Dhabi United Group.
With those funds available, the Villa deal, at least according to the Spanish press, is expected to go through within the next week.
