Higuain wants to represent Argentina

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is optimistic on representing Argentina in the South Africa 2010 World Cup.

The Argentine's high goal-scoring record in Europe has yet to seal him a place in the national squad.

Argentina coach Diego Maradona has said that he feels the timing is not right, deciding not to give Higuain a call-up for the World Cup qualifiers.

In an interview with Argentine newspaper La Nacion, Higuain said: "I see myself playing in the World Cup. I won't let anybody down."

The prolific goal-scorer has been touched by the Argentine public's call for his inclusion, citing how it gave him "much hope".

Even with his high strike-rate record, Higuain has only managed one appearance for Argentina, in a U-23 friendly match against Guatemala.

With Argentina in fourth position, five points behind group leaders Brazil in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying section, Los Albicelestes would do well to heed the public's advice.

"It is the dream that I have [to play for Argentina].

"I see myself there, I have a great desire to play for the national team, and to convince my teammates and the coaching staff that I can be there and to help out," he added.
