Real Madrid are looking to land another ‘Galactico', this time in the form of Liverpool's Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish giants have been on the trail of the midfielder since 2004, and it seems that the Los Blancos could finally nab their prize.

The press has reported that the 27-year-old said his goodbyes to certain members of the Reds staff, subsequently making the club slap a €41 million price tag on his services.

Madrid boss Florentino Perez has always made the playmaker one of his prime objectives in the transfer market, with reports of offers ranging from €20m to €25m plus player exchanges previously on the table.

Perez, however, had the door shut on him, when Liverpool announced that Alonso was not for sale.

Alonso's rocky relationship with manager Rafa Benitez over the pursuit of Gareth Barry might have the Reds sing a different tune this time around.
