Real in chase for Velez’s Otamendi

Jorge Valdano has met with Velez Sarsfield president Fernando Raffaini to talk about a deal for Nicolas Otamendi.

Raffaini reportedly made a trip to Madrid to hear what Valdano was offering, but details of the deal have not been ironed out at this stage.

Velez have qualified for the 2011 Copa Libertadores by winning the Argentine Clausura and the club's coach, Ricardo Gareca, is convinced that Otamendi is a "fundamental" part of the squad.

The 21-year-old was in scintillating form the last campaign, getting called up for his international debut recently in a World Cup qualifying loss to Ecaudor.

Reports from DyN suggest that the meeting between both bosses was "informal" because Madrid "want to purchase the player in the future," and that Otamendi will "stay at Velez for at least six more months".

Reports have claimed that Velez are asking for €15 million for their prized defender.
