Ronaldo pleased with Real welcome

Real Madrid star signing Cristiano Ronaldo has officially made his debut at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Portuguese international's performance, however, was far from star material.

In a pre-season friendly that saw Real Madrid draw 1-1 with Al-Ittihad, the wonder winger failed to make an impact and get on the scoresheet.

The 24-year-old was nonetheless pleased with the welcome he received from the fans.

During a post-match interview, he said: "I'm very happy with the reception I got at the Bernabeu. I liked the warmth shown by the Madrid fans,

"I felt the affection at every moment. I am satisfied with my performance."

There are growing concerns that the Galacticos are not gelling as a team, nevertheless, Ronaldo remains optimistic.

"All that is anecdotal because we are still in pre-season and we have only been working for a few weeks,

"Personally, I feel very tired after the game. But the important thing is to find our feet as soon as possible in order to begin the season strongly.

"As for my team-mates, I believe that they are doing very well. We all showed cohesion all around the pitch."

In the fickle world of football, Ronaldo has to realise that the fans cheers will quickly turn to jeers, if Los Blancos do not step up their game to the level of their price tags.

And you can bet £80 million on that.
