Barcelona's January targets

Barcelona's sporting director, Txiki Begiristain has identified his list of transfer targets for January.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, the Barca management team has put together a list of possible transfer targets to give the team more depth and cover when the next transfer window opens.

Primarily, the left wing and defensive midfield positions are the key areas that need strengthening with the African Nations Cup in mind.

Midfield generals, Yaya Toure and Seydou Keita will be away representing their countries in the African showpiece which leaves Sergio Busquets as the only recognized defensive midfielder at the club.

Internationale's French midfielder Patrick Vieira is the top priority while Christian Poulsen and Daniel De Rossi are also on the radar.

Two other players, Hernanes and Steven Defour are also said to be looked at but neither player has the experience in Europe.

With regards to the left wing issue, Thierry Henry is currently occupying the role with Manchester City's Robinho and Shakhtar Donetsk's Willian the supposed candidates to take over if the Frenchman decides on a move back to the Barclays Premier League.

If a deal for Robinho fails, the Catalans will turn their attention to PSV Eindhoven's exciting winger, Ibrahim Afellay.

Busy times ahead for the reigning La Liga and Champions League holders.
