Getafe vs Barcelona Preview

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola welcomes back Andres Iniesta and Rafael Marquez for their Primera Division clash at Getafe.

Iniesta picked up an injury at the end of last season and was a serious doubt for the Champions League final against Manchester United.

The midfielder returned to star in that match, but was then sidelined for the whole of the summer and missed Spain's Confederations Cup campaign.

Iniesta was also absent as Barcelona won the Spanish and European Supercups before the start of the domestic season.

Marquez, meanwhile, missed Barca's run-in to the treble last season after he was injured in the Champions League semi-final first leg at home to Chelsea.

The Mexico captain returned in pre-season, but picked up a new injury and has taken much longer than expected to recover.

Both look set to start on the bench on Saturday in the second round of La Liga, with Guardiola loath to risk either player from the start.

Iniesta is a key player for Barcelona and will soon be expected to win back his first-team place, but the midfielder admits he is not ready to play 90 minutes following his long spell on the sidelines.

"I don't see myself playing the 90 minutes, it's a question of getting my rhythm back," he said.

But the 25-year-old is thrilled just to be involved again.

"What I most wished for was to be with the team, spending time with them; that's what I live for," he said.

The midfielder says this summer has been his worst for a long time.

"It has been my worst summer in a long time, when it should have been the other way round.

"Having won everything and enjoyed that, I have had a bad time.

"But now I am on the verge of stepping out on the pitch, I celebrate it with more joy than usual."

Marquez is set to have more of a fight to win back his first-team slot.

The Mexican had seemed an immovable object in the role of ball-playing centre-back for Barca, but Gerard Pique was outstanding in that position at the end of last season and is currently first choice alongside captain Carles Puyol.

Barcelona have also recently added Ukraine defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy to their ranks and the former Shakhtar Donetsk captain could make his debut against Getafe.

Meanwhile, Argentina defender Gabi Milito - who is yet to feature under Guardiola following more than a year on the sidelines - is still recovering from his long-term injury.

Barca face Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday and Guardiola could decide to rest some of his players ahead of that match in Italy.

Barcelona beat Sporting Gijon 3-0 in the first round of Primera Division action.

Getafe began the campaign with an even better result, thrashing Racing Santander 4-1 away from home in their first match.

That result means Getafe head the table on goal difference after just one round of the championship, with Barcelona in second place.

Getafe coach Michel welcomes back veteran defender David Belenguer from suspension, but is without the injured Mario Alvarez.

Michel has also omitted Cosmin Contra and Jaime Gavilan from his squad, with the duo short of match fitness at the moment.

Michel believes his side have a chance of beating Barcelona.

"We are aware of the difficulty of playing a team like Barcelona, but we have the obligation and the belief that we can do something," he said.

"I think Barcelona will come up against a Getafe side at a high level."
