Sevilla vs Real Zaragoza Preview
Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez has called for an immediate reaction from his players after criticism following a defeat at Valencia.
Jimenez and his team have been under pressure from supporters since last season.
A 2-0 defeat at the Mestalla did not help matters, and Jimenez has labelled tomorrow's match against Real Zaragoza a must-win.
"It has shades of a final, for the necessity of desire to win it," he said.
"But we have to be aware we are not going to win them all.
"We have just come from giving a poor image of ourselves, which doesn't fit in with what we wanted. But that happened, and we cannot lose ourselves in justifications.
"We have to win by all means.
"The most important game is tomorrow's one, but we have to deal with the fact that after Zaragoza there is Urinea, and then Osasuna, Mallorca ...
"In 22 days we will play seven games and we have to know how to manage this team."
The fans made their feelings known against Valencia, and Jimenez hopes he can turn their opinion around.
He added: "The supporters are in their right to give their opinion, to ask for what they want, and we have to be prepared to work as much for those who criticise as those who don't."
Jimenez has confirmed Luis Fabiano will definitely start and is set to be partnered up front by recent signing Alvaro Negredo - who, after coming on as a substitute against Valencia, is set for his first start for Sevilla.
Frederic Kanoute is suspended following his sending-off in the Mestalla, but Jimenez has an otherwise full-strength squad to choose from.
Zaragoza began life back in the top flight with a 1-0 win over fellow promoted side Tenerife and know they will need another solid performance tomorrow if they are to make it two wins out of two.
Marcelino Garcia Toral's side were on the back foot for long periods of that match but soaked up the visitors' pressure to win three valuable points.
The Zaragoza coach is confident his players can get a result tomorrow but is wary of the opposition too.
"The key to games is always in the penalty boxes, and Sevilla are a team who make quick transitions from one to the other," said Marcelino.
"They have a midfield which is heavyweight on the inside and quick on the wings -and individually they are all at the top level.
"But we believe we have options; we can put Sevilla in very great difficulties, and that's what we're going to try to do.
"When a 'big' team has just lost, it's not likely that they'll lose twice. But in Valencia there were also circumstances that were completely against them, like the fact that they had 10 men and were without a footballer like Kanoute."
Juan Pablo Carrizo, Abel Aguilar and Ivan Obradovic are likely to miss out. But Jermaine Pennant looks set to play after resuming training with his team-mates yesterday.
