Guardiola: We were more tenacious

Barcelona coach has declared that the 5-2 victory over Atletico Madrid was down to the team’s “tenacity”, rather than his tactics.

La Blaugrana scored the first goal after just one minute, and the score was 4-1 at the stroke of half-time.

"We would not have won had we not played with such tenacity," said Guardiola to Marca after the game.

"The game against Atletico was strange yet familiar, perhaps because both teams play the same type of football."

Guardiola believed that both Barca and Atletico were willing to play adventurous, high octane football, and added that his side won by taking more risks. He did admit, however, that the Catalans did take advantage of Los Colchoneros' high backline.

However, with Atletico playing higher up the pitch, the former midfielder did concede that his team needed to "play harder" to create the space they usually enjoy.

"This was a game I was not that happy about overall," said the Barca boss. "We did not have total control of the game, lacked the maturity to play patiently and gave the ball away a lot."
