Van Nistelrooy suffers injury

Ruud van Nistelrooy managed to score for Real Madrid in their 5-0 win over Xerez, but injured himself in the process.

Van Nistelrooy scored Real's last goal of the night against the newly promoted side, but according to the Spanish media, he suffered a torn thigh muscle in his left leg after the contest.

Los Blancos went ahead in the first minute thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo, before a goal glut in the last fifteen minutes of the game sealed the thrashing for the Primera Liga contenders.

The Dutchman replaced Ronaldo in the 80th minute of the game, and scored with just two minutes left. The goal was the 33-year-old's first since scoring against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League last October.

Van Nistelrooy had just made his return from knee surgery, and the procedure had put him out of action for almost nine months.
