Pellegrini demands team ethic
Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini has insisted his players recognise that the team comes above any individual.
Pellegrini, in his first season at the Bernabeu, was explaining his football philosophy in light of the host of star players that have descended on the capital club this year.
With the arrival of Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema and Alonso this summer many have called it a new era of Galacticos but the Chilean coach was eager to impart that football is a team game and his players should recognise that the team always comes before the individua.
"We have put together a global squad and if the players understand that it is a team game everything will be much easier.
"There are many games and everyone feels a part of the squad, some more than others but the team is more important than the individual," Pellegrini told a press conference ahead of their UEFA Champions League tie against Marseille at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
"We have talked to the players about this because we believe it is important they understand. We have the potential to win it all and that is what we intend to do."
Pellegrini went on to say that there is an expectation at the club to capture the Champions League this season and says he hopes it can happen.
"If we fail our goal, and I hope that does not happen, we must evaluate to see if it is failure or bad luck but we believe we are capable of reaching the end. A club like this cannot go out in the second round."
