Malaga 1-2 Almeria

Malaga 1-2 Almeria

Almeria claimed a deserved first away win of the season to add to Malaga's early-season woes.

Two goals in a minute from Domingo Cismo and Fernando Soriano were ultimately enough to secure victory for the visitors, who had the opportunities to make the result much more comfortable.

Edinho's second-half strike gave the home side hope, but they failed to create a clear chance for an equaliser and were ultimately condemned to a fifth defeat in seven matches.

Almeria started brightly and Pablo Piatti shot wide before Juanma Ortiz forced a fantastic save from home keeper Gustavo Munua from the edge of the box.

Malaga responded and, after being fouled by Michel Macedo, Sergio Duda delivered a free-kick from which Robson Welington's header was superbly parried by keeper Diego Alves.

After a quieter spell, the game exploded back into life from the half-hour mark. First Alves denied Duda, then Piatti headed straight at Munua at the other end.

Duda fired over before Almeria stepped up a gear and roared into the lead.

Juanma Ortiz's effort was comfortably saved by Munua, who then made a far better save from Piatti's left-footed drive.

But he was beaten six minutes before the interval when Selim Benachour fouled Albert Crusat and Cisma found the top corner with the resulting free-kick.

And Soriano doubled the visitors' lead just a minute later after running on to Piatti's through-ball to beat Munua.

Malaga boss Juan Ramon Lopez Muniz responded with a double change at the interval, replacing Valdo and Ivan Cuadrado with Nabil Baha and Albert Luque.

There were quick signs of encouragement as Xavi Torres shot over from range, though Almeria regained the upper hand and Chico curled a free-kick over the bar.

Piatti then had a chance to put the result beyond doubt, but drove his right-footed effort against the post with Munua beaten.

Cisma headed wide from Hernan Bernardello's free-kick before Edinho cut the deficit in the 68th minute.

Having been played in by substitute Baha's pass, Edinho finished low across Diego Alves.

Almeria went searching for a goal to restore their two-goal cushion and Soriano shot wide from long range before Crusat's free-kick picked out Kalu Uche, who was also off target.

Santiago Acasiete blocked Benachour's effort and Torres Manu also threatened for Malaga, but Juanma Ortiz then forced another excellent stop from Munua.

Manu shot wide again as Malaga failed to find a leveller, leaving them without a win in six games and one place off the bottom of the table.
