Real Mallorca 3-1 Getafe
Real Mallorca maintained their perfect home record in La Liga with an impressive victory over Getafe.
The Balearic side began the weekend in sixth spot after impressive early-season form and were looking to bounce back from a 4-1 away defeat to Sporting Gijon before the international break.
And Julio Alvarez's first-half strike plus a brace by Basque livewire Aritz Aduriz ensured a comfortable win over Getafe, who had also made a decent start to the campaign before Sunday's limp loss. Juan Albin managed a late consolation.
Unsurprisingly it was Gregorio Manzano's side who made the early running and after winning a free-kick himself, Alvarez took the kick himself but did little more than offer Getafe goalkeeper Oscar Ustari an early touch.
In the eighth minute prolific Getafe striker Roberto Soldado directed a header over the bar from the middle of the area and moments later the same man drove a shot wide from outside the box.
After 16 minutes Getafe's Daniel Parejo sent a free-kick high and wide as the early exchanges lacked a real cutting edge.
Soldado was the liveliest of the 22 players on show, however, and he did well to meet Parejo's cross but drilled his effort wide of the post.
Mallorca centre-half Ivan Ramis blasted a speculative shot wide in the 20th minute before Parejo tried his luck with another free-kick, this time forcing Mallorca goalkeeper Dudu Aouate into a punch clear.
Set pieces were playing a significant role and Alvarez had another crack from 25 yards out, slightly to the left, but Ustari was able to collect.
In the 31st minute the breakthrough came, surprisingly from open play.
When Getafe failed to get hold of the ball and clear the danger area, Alvarez was on hand to drill it home with his right foot from near the penalty spot.
Victor Casadesus had a chance to make it 2-0 minutes later when Borja Valero crossed well but his right-footed shot was saved smartly as Ustari stretched to tip it round the post.
After their early chances Getafe were struggling to respond and found themselves two down in the second half.
An ill-advised foul by Adrian Gonzalez on Jose Carlos Nunes resulted in a booking and free-kick and when Nunes himself swung it in from the right, Aduriz found space to sweep it home from 12 yards.
Mallorca wrapped up the win with Aduriz's second in the 70th minute when the former Athletic Bilbao striker - transfer listed by cash-strapped Mallorca in the summer - blasted home from the edge of the area after being fed by Gonzalo Castro's ball from the right.
The Madrid club did finally get the goal they probably deserved in the 78th minute.
Ramis fouled Soldado after being caught slightly out of position and Albin produced an accurate, fizzing left-footed shot from the set-piece which sailed over Aouate's reach and into the net.
