Emery: We lacked intensity and speed
Coach Unai Emery had mixed feelings after Valencia were held by Slavia Prague in the Europa League game on Thursday.
Valencia had to come from behind to hold Slavia Prague at the Mestalla and to compound matters, David Villa will be suspended for the next game after getting sent off for the hosts.
Emery thought his side cannot be faulted for trying hard against a defensive opponent but also said Valencia lacked the right tempo to win the game.
"We had the ball, but we lacked intensity and speed. The opponent was sat back but that's not a surprise, Only when we came down the flanks did we enjoy success," Emery said afterwards, according to AS.
"The attitude has been good against an opponent that has defended well and had a good counterattack. There have been some doubts when we have scored the goal, but I can't knock the players, because the second half we made a great effort. We have a draw and we hit the woodwork a couple of times."
On Villa's dismissal for a petulant kick at Benjamin Vomacka, Emery said they must "prevent such actions".
