Santi Denia, Atletico's Madrid's interim coach has acknowledged sacked coach Abel Resino's contribution to the team.

Resino was sacked by los Rojiblancos after a 4-0 thrashing by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
 
Santi told El Mundo Deportivo, "Abel is a person of integrity - a great coach, who gave everything for this club and he deserves the greatest of respect from everyone,"

"When you have bad results, everyone has [to take] their share of the blame.

"I won't talk about percentages - the club, the technical staff and the players [all take responsibility]. We have to work harder, with more humility, more sacrifice and everything."

Santi will be Atletico's coach only for the match against Mallorca before current Benfica boss Quieque Sanchez Flores takes charge next week.
