Puyol is Barcelona's number five
Barcelona have renewed Carles Puyol contract making him the fifth player to have his future sorted at the Nou Camp.
According to Barcelona's official site, Puyol follows Victor Valdes, Pedro and Lionel Messi all of whom have been youth players at the club, in penning new deals. Defensive midfielder Yaya Toure Yaya has also renewed his contract.
Left winger Pedro has risen to prominence in recent months and has been rewarded to show that the club are maintaining their youth production policy.
At 22 the forward is one end of the spectrum while Puyol, at 31, is signing a deal that will ensure that he remains a one club man throughout his career. Valdés, aged 27, Toure, aged 26, and Messi, 22, all have many more also left at the club.
With the goalkeeper having signed until 2014, Messi signed up until 2016 and now Puyol until 2013 the long-term future in almost every position is secure.
