Pellegrini: Win lifted Real spirits

Manuel Pellegrini has expressed that Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Getafe could signal a new dawn in Los Meregues’ La Liga campaign.

Real were under-fire after their dismal 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Alcorcon, but the win has banished thoughts about the loss.

"You can analyse the football aspect," Pellegrini told Marca after the game. "It was very important to give the Bernabeu a win to lift the spirits. The fans supported us after initially protesting.

"We can now go to Milan to win, turn the cup result around, and continue forwards in the league. Today was a key result.

"At the beginning of the season, I knew it would take time to change our style of play. I do not like counter-attacking teams, and I wanted to change that.

"It was difficult because we added so many new players. But the statistics are clear.

"At the Bernabeu, we have won all the points, scored 16 goals and conceded just four."

Pellegrini then praised Gonzalo Higuain for his contributions, adding: "He has always been very professional."

"He was unable to play for ten days because of injury. There were a lot of new players, and we were trying to integrate Benzema.

"He is a fundamental player, and will be a protagonist this season."

Pellegrini then weighed in his opinion about Raul Albiol's dismissal, declaring: "I do not agree with it."

"It was an absurd decision."
