Mancini: Coaching Real an honour

Roberto Mancini has reportedly made known his desire to coach Real Madrid, should Manuel Pellegrini get the sack.

El Pais is reporting that Mancini has done everything in his power to be noticed by Bernabeu supremo Florentino Perez.

"I am the best coach that Real Madrid could have - my initials are not R.M. by chance," he allegedly told the Spanish daily.

The former Inter Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina coach also expressed his Real interest to ANSA, an Italian news company, that he would love nothing more than a new challenge and a chance to coach a team like Real Madrid. He did, however, deny that he had spoken to El Pais.

"Every coach would be honoured to coach Real Madrid, I'm ready for a new challenge," Mancini announced.

"I'm thankful for the attention I've received in the Spanish press, even though I've not telephoned any journalists and I've not issued any statements that were reported in the press today.

"I'm ready for a new club and for a new challenge in Italy or abroad. Any coach would be honoured to be able to sit on the bench of such a prestigious club as Real Madrid."
