Messi nabs Onze d'Or award

Lionel Messi has won another individual award after French football magazine Onze Mondial named him the best player of 2009.

According to Barcelona's official website, the Argentina and Barcelona wizard was among the ten Barca players nominated - more than any other club.

The other Barca players nominated were: Valdes, Alves, Pique, Puyol, Toure, Xavi, Iniesta, Ibrahimovic and Henry. Manchester United were second with eight nominations.

Messi who is just 22 has won an array of individual awards ever since he burst onto the international scene with the Catalan side. The forward is the hot favourite to win this year's Golden Ball and FIFA World Player in December after leading his club to an unprecedented treble.

Last season, he was chosen as the best player in the Champions League (by UEFA, and by magazines Marca and La Gazzetta dello Sport) and best player in the league.
