Real Madrid goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain was thrilled with his side's latest victory which puts them top of La Liga.

Higuain scored the only goal of the game as Real beat Racing Santander 1-0 to move one point ahead of Barcelona at the top of the standings.

Speaking to Spanish daily Marca after the match he said "There were a lot of changes at the start of the season, which is why we started slowly.

"But we are close to finding the level we want. We suffered against Alcorcon, which was very hard for a club like this.

"But we are ahead in the league and the Champions League. The important thing is that we are getting the right results.

"I scored again, therefore I am happy."

Next weekend Real travel to the Camp Nou for the latest 'El Clasico' encounter - but first they face a vital home game against FC Zurich in the Champions League.
