Racism in La Liga, again

Racism in La Liga, again

Racism in La Liga has once again come into light after Apono admitted to insulting Real Zaragoza’s striker Ewerthon.

The clash between Malaga and Zaragoza that took place at the Rosaleda on Sunday ended 1-1.

Malaga's midfielder claimed that he was provoked into hurling the racial slur after Ewerthon insulted his mother.

The Zaragoza player admitted to AS, ""It happened after he insulted my mother and in truth that motivated me to say what I said."

This is not the first time that racism in La Liga has come into public scrutiny, though it is a rare incident between players.

Spanish football grounds have long been infamous for the regular racial abuse that black players receive.

Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o once threatened to walk off the pitch in a La Liga tie against Real Zaragoza at La Romareda during the 2005/06 season after being taunted by the home support.
