Pellegrini: Ron’s one of the boys

Manuel Pellegrini has jumped in Cristiano Ronaldo’s defence, saying that the winger is on good terms with his team-mates.

Real Madrid came from behind to beat Almeria 4-2, with the game's highlights not being the goals, but Ronaldo's non-celebration of Karim Benzema's goal, his missed penalty and his dismissal.

"He does not have a problem with anyone else," Pellegrini told Marca after the game.

"It was not bad sportsmanship not to celebrate the goal. It is difficult not to dwell on it when you miss a penalty.

"I thought Alves touched him, and it was a clear penalty.

"Hugo (Sanchez) disagrees, but the referee is the one who decides."

Pellegrini then spoke about Ronaldo's two yellow cards that resulted in him being given his marching orders.

"He got the first yellow for taking his shirt off, and the second was avoidable."

"We have an important game against Valencia next. I do not think that he deserves to miss it.

"I did not see it well, but I think he was trying to get the ball when he hit the other player."

The Real coach added, "Almeria went ahead but even they couldn't believe it."

"Luckily we remained calm and claimed a comfortable victory. I believe we played an almost perfect game.

"We showed that we didn't tire during the last 20 minutes."
