Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Forlan is adamant that his side can still pick up a trophy this season despite their form.

The club will now fight for European glory in the Europa League after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League.

Their league form is not any better as they lie in a lowly 15th position after a horrendous start to the season which led to the sacking of Abel Resino.

Speaking to AS, Forlan reckons his side are still capable of something big this season.

He said: "We tried, but it could not be [Champions League]. Now it opens the possibility of the Europa League and we must seize it. We must fight to win this trophy,

"We all want to claim a title and of course it would be a great success. We are also still alive in the Copa del Rey, a competition that causes a lot of enthusiasm among fans of Atletico and among the staff. We will try to go as far as possible in these competitions.

"We must start looking up. We are the same players that qualified for the Champions League last year."

Despite Atletico's slump, the Uruguayan forward has continued his form from last season as he continues to be the team's most potent offensive threat alongside Sergio Aguero.
