Puyol realigns Barcelona targets

Carles Puyol wants Barcelona to concentrate on winning the La Liga and Champions League titles after their Copa del Rey exit at the hands of Sevilla.

Barca saw the defence of their Cup come to an end on Wednesday as they tumbled out at the last-16 stage on away goals to the Rojiblancos.

Pep Guardiola's men, whose Cup success of last year was the first of a record-breaking six trophies they won in 2009, won the second leg 1-0 but paid the price for losing the first meeting 2-1 at home.

After their Cup exit, Barcelona captain Puyol has urged his teammates to use this as a catalyst to win the other competitions they are still in.

"We're not happy about being knocked out, but we have to use it to make us stronger. Now we have to fight even harder for the league and Champions League titles," Puyol told fcbarcelona.com.

"Nobody likes to go out in a knock-out competition and it doesn't make me feel any better knowing we lost to a good team like Seville. Nobody can accuse us of anything about Wednesday's game. We gave a good account of ourselves and we kept fighting till the end".

The captain has also expressed his support for Barca coach Josep Guardiola and absolved him from all blame.

"He didn't let us down at all. He prepared the game really well and we only just lost. I've always said that it's the players who win or lose games. We are very proud of the boss".

Barca will get an immediate chance to avenge their Cup defeat to Sevilla when they face the same team in La Liga this weekend.
