Canales: Real deal not sealed

Sergio Canales insists he has not signed for Real Madrid, despite reports claiming that the starlet’s transfer is done and dusted.

"There are no problems with the contract with Madrid, but it has not been closed yet," Canales told Marca. "They are negotiating without problems. But I leave it to them. I am just thinking of the Copa del Rey."

The teenager is tabbed for a starring role in Racing's Copa del Rey semi-final in a clash against struggling Atletico Madrid, and concedes that his rise to the first team has been anything but gradual.

"Just two months ago I was in the B team, now I'm in the first team and feel like one of the regulars."

Commenting on his new-found stardom, the 18-year-old appeared uncomfortable talking about the multitude of fans who now crowd outside the club's training facility just for a glimpse of him.

"I'm a little embarrassed but there are always people who help me and that is appreciated," he said.

Canales added that he has not given his move to Los Merengues much thought and stressed that he remains focused on getting as many wins as possible for Racing.

"Right now I don't think about it. I am focused on the Cup, because we can make history," he added.
