Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has rubbished reports suggesting that father-in-law Diego Maradona controls him.

Speaking to Argentina's canchallena, Aguero said: "I am the one who plays and I am the one who decides what to do with my own life."

"All I want to do right now is to finish the season well."

Ever since Maradona took over the reigns of the Argentinian national team, he has publicly suggested that several of his players should change clubs in order to further their careers.

Aguero has been under a particularly severe spotlight, given the family connections involved. That has also led some to speculate the striker automatically landing a place in Maradona's squad for the World Cup.

However, the 21-year-old insists this is not the case.

"Argentina have some very good attacking players, I have to do my best and then the coach will decide if I play or not," he said.
