Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has said that he would prefer it if Barcelona did not make it to the Champions League final.

Marcelo's wish is understandable given that the final will be held at Real's home ground - the Santiago Bernabeu.

Having already been dumped out, the pill would become even more bitter for Real to swallow if their arch-rivals were to reach and lift the European trophy.

In comments reported by AS, Marcelo said: "If we had been in the final, I would have preferred it [for Barca to be in the final]. It is difficult because we are not in the competition. But I hope that Barca are not in the final."

"It is really hard to be out of the Champions League. It was not a physical factor that led to our defeat. We tried but we could not do it. We need to raise our heads and continue working. Now we are more calm and our objective is La Liga. We will fight to the death for it," delcared the Brazilian.

Commenting on the rough tackles that teammate Cristiano Ronaldo was subjected to, Marcelo said: Cristiano has a style of dribbling that is very special. No one wants to be beaten by him."

"I'm not sure if they make a point of trying to tackle him, but the fans certainly get heated because of it. This could prompt some players to make hard challenges. He does a good job of keeping his head."

Speaking on his own position on the pitch, he youngster said: "I feel important for the team and I would return to play in midfield."
