Xerez vs Tenerife Preview

Tenerife have the chance to push Xerex closer to relegation and boost their own hopes of survival.

Third-bottom Tenerife make the trip to the Estadio Municipal de Chapin having picked up 23 points this season, eight more than last-placed Xerez, but only two of them have come away from the Canary Islands.

Tenerife's return of eight goals scored on their travels is also the second-worst behind Espanyol (six), while the 31 goals they have conceded is the second worst record after Real Zaragoza (35).

Xerez's record this season, though, will give the visitors confidence.

They have won only 15 points all season and are 11 adrift of 17th-placed Zaragoza and safety with only 12 games left to save themselves.

Tenerife midfielder Ricardo Leon said: "We've not been good away from the Heliodoro, although in football nothing is set in stone. We want to move further clear of a rival and it will be an evenly-fought game.

"We've not always deserved to lose away from home. I'm convinced that, from here until the end of the season, we will win more than one game away from home. We are competing better than the results say."

Tenerife ended a run of three successive defeats with a 4-1 mauling of Espanyol last weekend, and they could draw level on 26 points with Zaragoza if results go their way this weekend. Zaragoza host Barcelona on Sunday night.

Xerez won this corresponding fixture 2-0 last season en route to taking the Segunda Division title and they will be desperate for a repeat showing tomorrow.

Coach Nestor Gorosito said: "We need to win. We are playing at home, it would be very important for the future to pick up the three points.

"Their players are very similar to us. They are coming into the match having won at home. We are capable of beating Tenerife and maintaining hope."

Xerez midfielder Victor Sanchez, whose side had taken four points from two games prior to last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Villarreal, added: "We have to go for the three points. We need to go out to win the game.

"We all went out at El Madrigal (against Villarreal) with high hopes. The defeat was a shock to the system because we were hopeful of beating them again like we did in the first half of the season.

"We're a little down. From here until the end of the season we need to fight to get level with the others and continue this fight."

Gorosito welcomes back Emiliano Armenteros, Jose Manuel Casado and Emilio Viqueira for the match.

Tenerife coach Jose Luis Oltra, meanwhile, has Marc Bertran available again but Mikel Alonso is out.
