Marquez may swap Barca for MLS

Rafael Marquez could soon join former Barcelona teammate Thierry Henry in Major League Soccer with the New York Red Bulls.

The Mexican defender is thought to be a summer taget for the MLS side which according to Sport reports is only days away from securing French striker Henry's signature.

Reports have indicated Henry is looking for a fresh challenge in his career and the MLS with New York is a real possibility for the Arsenal legend. In addition to an attractive salary, there might be new rules implemented by MLS commissioner Don Garber that could make New York an even more attractive place for players like Henry and Marquez to wind down their careers.

The club's sporting director Erik Soler has hinted at the possibility of another marquee signing and this has fueled the current specualtion surrounding Marquez and Red Bulls.

Soler refused to comment on whether the 31-year-old defender was a target - but did not refute the claims either.
