Marquez closing in on Red Bulls switch

Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez is close to completing a move to MLS side New York Red Bulls, according to Sport.

There he will join up with former team-mate Thierry Henry whom Red Bulls sporting director Erik Soler has hinted will not be the only big name signing for the club this summer.

The move would also see a reunion between the defender and Red Bulls coach Hans Backe, who worked as the assistant of Sven Goran Eriksson during his brief spell with the Mexico national team.

Marquez has confirmed his reason leaving the Nou Camp being the search for regular football and that could happen in a matter of days.

"I want to leave Barcelona in a good way, I hope to get my passage to solve my future soon in the MLS or outside of MLS," he was quoted as saying.

"I want to continue playing in the United States, Mexico or wherever the opportunity presents itself to me."
