Maicon saga finally set to end

Maicon saga finally set to end

Inter Milan's Maicon is finally set to re-unite with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid after both clubs reached an agreement.

The Maicon transfer story has been rambling along for the entire summer - with Inter and Real haggling on the right price for the right-back.

Now La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Inter have finally accepted Real's bid for the player with Corriere della Sera reporting the offer is in the region of €28 million plus bonuses.

Maicon has been obsessed with a move to Spain ever since treble-winning coach Mourinho switched camps to join the capital giants. The player was a vital cog in the Inter juggernaut last season as the club swept aside all opponents to win the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia trophies - a feat unprecedented in Italian football.

Further proof, if any was needed, of Maicon's ability came in the World Cup when the right-back scored one of the goals of the tournament and was one of the most threatening players for the Samba Boys.

Before any move can be finalised though, the player has to agree personal terms with Real. President Florentino Perez has reportedly offered him a four year deal worth €5.5 million and now the ball is in the Brazilian's court.

An agreement is expected to be reached in the next two days.

If the deal comes through, as is looking increasingly likely, it would leave a question mark over the future of Sergio Ramos - the Bernabeu incumbent at right-back.

From Inter's perspective, Maicon's sale would boost the funds required to secure the services of wantaway Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.
