Espanyol 3-1 Getafe

Dani Osvaldo struck a brace and Jesus Datolo scored on his debut as Espanyol kicked off the season with a 3-1 win at home to Getafe.

Osvaldo struck either side of half-time to put the Barcelona side in control of the match and although an Ernesto Galan own-goal gave Getafe hope of salvaging a point, Datolo sealed the win for Espanyol with the clincher deep into added time.

Espanyol began the game with a line-up of players who were all at the club last season.

Goalkeeper Carlos Kameni missed out through injury, however, and was replaced by Argentinian Cristian Alvarez.

But it was another Argentinian who swung the match in Espanyol's favour.

Osvaldo, who was born in Buenos Aires but also has Italian nationality, gave the home side the upper hand with the opener after 33 minutes.

The former Fiorentina forward slotted home a pass from Jose Callejon after Espanyol had stretched the Getafe defence on the counter-attack.

It followed a period of sustained pressure from the Catalans and was no more than the home side deserved.

The second came nine minutes into the second half, when Osvaldo latched on to a poor clearance by Miguel Torres to fire past an exposed Oscar Ustari.

Espanyol's dominance was total at this stage, but Getafe were handed a lifeline just after the hour mark, when Galan deflected Manu del Moral's cross into his own net.

The visitors poured forward late on and Adrian Colunga hit the post, but Espanyol wrapped up a deserved win with a breakaway goal four minutes into added time, when Datolo rolled the ball into an empty net after another Callejon pass.
