Ingla urges support for Laporta
Barcelona vice-president Marc Ingla has urged the club's members to support the board in the presidential vote on July 6.
Joan Laporta faces a battle to keep his position as president of the Catalan club this summer after a Barcelona fan collected the 5882 member signatures required to request a motion of censure and open up a vote for a new president, but Ingla believes that anything but a vote of confidence in Laporta and the board would have a hugely detrimental effect on the club.
"They should use their better judgement to ensure that the motion doesn't succeed and so that club can do the work better and plan for next season," said Ingla.
"The motion puts an extra point of pressure on closing deals and, if it succeeds, the club won't be able to do transfers or contracts until the beginning of the season and we would be at a disadvantage compared to other clubs."
A second successive trophy-less season saw Barca herald in a new era at the end of the last campaign.
And new coach Pep Guardiola is set to ring the changes at the Nou Camp, having already confirmed that Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o can leave the club, possibly making way for Arsenal duo Emmanuel Adebayor and Alexander Hleb.
"Both footballers (Ronaldinho and Eto'o) have an incomparable prestige," added Ingla. "But it is the moment to carry out changes.
"They are in new circumstances and are looking at new horizons in order to get back to their best. We have always had talks with them and meetings, but it is the first team coach who takes the decisions.
"The club is now going through a time of change in order to boost our sporting plans.
"Barca are continuing negotiating with clubs where interesting footballers play, through frank and honest discussions."
