Atletico still chasing duo
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo insists the club are still chasing Florent Sinama Pongolle and Gregory Coupet.
The French duo were expected to complete transfers to the capital club this week but as of Friday nothing official had been confirmed.
Cerezo revealed Atletico is still in talks with Lyon to bring Coupet to the Vicente Calderon while Recreativo Huelva forward Sinama Pongolle is on the verge of agreeing terms, which could see the former Liverpool man shipped out to Racing Santander.
"We're still working on everything, but we still have to wait a couple of days before confirming the signings," Cerezo told Marca.
"We're negotiating with Lyon for Coupet and we hope to reach an agreement, while Sinama is practically an Atletico Madrid player and the only thing we need to decide is whether we're going to send him on loan to Racing or not."
It is believed Sinama Pongolle would only be farmed out on loan if Atletico also sign Brazil striker Ricardo Oliveira from Real Zaragoza.
Meanwhile, the Colchonero president denied reports linking Atletico with Werder Bremen playmaker Diego.
"There's absolutely no deal in the pipeline for Diego, I can tell you that now," Cerezo said.
Atletico are busy strengthening their squad ahead of their return to the Champions League stage next season after an 11-year absence.
However, while the club are focusing on bringing in new faces, Cerezo is keen to make sure the club's established stars stick around.
Reports suggest that a number of clubs are poised to bid for star forward Sergio Aguero, but Cerezo insists the player wants to stay at Atletico.
"Of course nobody's asked me about him (Aguero)," Cerezo stated.
"I'll say the same thing as I always do, players play where they want to play and 'El Kun' wants to be at Atletico Madrid and the club want him to stay on here."
