Atletico show interest in Silva

Atletico Madrid are targeting Spain and Valencia striker David Silva, according to club president Enrique Cerezo.

The 22-year-old Valencia playmaker has attracted plenty of interest after a string of impressive displays at Euro 2008, with Barcelona reportedly at the front of the queue.

"Silva is a player who interests us because he has plenty of quality and every good player interests Atletico," Cerezo told Spanish newspaper Marca.

"It's true that we are greatly interested in him and that we will try to negotiate with Valencia so that he can be an Atletico player."

Atletico have already made five signings this summer as they look to strengthen ahead of their return to the Champions League after an 11-year absence.

And president Enrique Cerezo sees Silva as the final piece of the jigsaw.

But Valencia have warned their rivals that neither Silva nor his Spain team-mate David Villa, Euro 2008's top scorer, are for sale but a lucrative deal may be too tempting for the cash-strapped club.

Despite admitting no offer has yet been made for Silva, Cerezo insisted he would test Valencia's resolve.

"I've read that we have made an offer of 22million euros and that Valencia are asking for 30million," he said.

"I don't know what Valencia are asking for but as yet we have not made an offer. This is a player that we are interested in and therefore we will try to strike a deal with his club."
