Deportivo La Coruna
Super Depor are the most successful club in Galacia. Manager Miguel Angel Lotina will be hoping to build on last season’s seventh placed finish.
Espanyol
Espanyol are the sixth most successful football team in Spain. The Periquitos will be playing next season in their new Estadi Cornella-El Prat stadium.
Getafe
The Azulones have been in the top-flight since the 2004-05 season, but just missed being relegated last season, finishing 17th.
Malaga
Malaga are one of the most historical Andalusian football clubs. They had a decent eighth-place finish in the season prior.
Mallorca
Real Mallorca finished a respectable ninth-place under manager Gregorio Manzano last time out and are looking for another strong showing during the season ahead.
Osasuna
Club Atletico Osasuna came about after Sportiva and New Club joined forces in 1920. Benjamin Andoian Martinez was the one who chose "Osasuna" as the name of the new club, a Basque word which means health, cheers, and vitality.
Racing Santander
Racing finished 12th last season, a disappointing showing compared to their 2007-08 season which saw them qualify for the UEFA Cup.
Real Madrid
Reinstated chairman Florentino Perez has spent an exorbitant amount of money to form his new Galacticos squad. With a collection of superstars at their disposal Real will look to dominate domestic and European competitions.
Real Zaragoza
Zaragoza's dismal showing in the 2007/08 season saw them relegated from the Primera Liga. The Blanquillos are back to top-flight status this time around as they look to redeem themselves.
Sevilla
Sevilla are perhaps the biggest threat to the Primera Liga dominance of Real Madrid and Barca. Manager Manolo Jimenez guided his men to a third-placed finish last season and will strive for silverware this time around.
Sporting Gijon
Known as the Rojiblancos because of their red and white striped jerseys, the 2008/09 season saw them break the Primera Liga record of 29 consecutive games without a draw - they played 33 games before their only draw.
Tenerife
After an absence of some seven years, Tenerife are back in the Primera Liga. A third-place finish in the Segunda Division secured their promotion.
Valencia
Los Che will look to manager Unai Emery to spur them on to bigger and better things this campaign. Valencia finished sixth last season, but are still the third most popular football team in Spain.
Valladolid
Real Valladolid were formed when Real Union Deportiva de Valladolid and Club Deportivo Espanol were combined in 1928.
Villarreal
The 2008/09 season saw 'The Yellow Submarine' finish fifth with Manuel Pellegrini at the helm. Following Pellegrini's departure to Real Madrid, Olympiacos' Ernesto Valverde has taken over the reins for this season.
Xerez
Crowned champions for the 2008/09 Segunda Division, Xerez will be making their debut in the Primera Liga this season.
