Zarate: Messi I am not

Mauro Zarate is excited by his start at Lazio, but admits that he has still a way to go before he can be compared with the best.

Lazio blasted four past shell-shocked Cagliari who were a goal up before Diego Lopez was given his marching orders in the second half.

The Biancocelesti were preparing for a loss with Cagliari firmly in control of the game, but the sending off turned the match on its head and it pretty much went downhill for the Isolani after that. Lazio won the game, 4-1, courtesy of a brace from Zarate.

The new crowd favourite has been said to be one to look out for in the budding Serie A season after some eye-catching performance in the pre-season.  Even the folks back home in his native Argentina are beginning to sit up and take notice.

The striker is now being hailed as ‘Pibe de Haedo,' and the media are brimming with excitement with Zarate's talent and potential, even reporting that the 21-year-old's performance during the weekend eclipsed Ronaldinho's Milan debut.

Biancocelesti supremo Cluadio Lotito recently added to the frenzy, insisting that his club had a striker that could rival Barcelona's Lionel Messi, but Zarate has said that he is embarrassed by the comparison, saying, "The things people say about me makes me proud, but at the moment Leo is one of the best players in the world. You can't say that I'm better."

"Italian football is very similar to the Argentinian game, only more tactical. But we have a great team," concluded the humble hitman, who is predicted to set the Serie A alight.
